UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT

CMMC is the US Department of Defense Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification programme. It concerns cybersecurity requirements and assessment for relevant defense-contractor information and contract contexts. CMMS, by contrast, means computerized maintenance management system.

Applicability depends on the organization’s contracts, information and current official requirements. A generic training page or software subscription does not confer CMMC certification. Use official programme guidance and qualified advice to determine scope; keep training, assessment evidence and contractual requirements distinct.

Questions to take back to your team

  1. Is the discussion about CMMS or CMMC?
  2. Which contracts and information establish the applicable scope?
  3. Has current official programme guidance been checked?
