CHBC UNIVERSITY / FIELD GUIDE

From project handover to maintainable assets

Define the information operations needs before the project closes.

UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT

Asset handover is an information and responsibility transition. Operations needs identifiable equipment, relevant drawings, manuals, spare-part relationships and maintenance requirements. Collecting these only at project closeout often exposes missing information too late.

Define required data and acceptance checks early in procurement. Validate a sample package before bulk delivery. Keep incomplete items in a visible exception register with owners and dates, and distinguish accepted operational data from documents still under review.

Questions to take back to your team

  1. Were data requirements agreed before procurement?
  2. Can supplied documents be linked to actual asset tags?
  3. Who accepts or resolves handover exceptions?
