Condition monitoring from signal to decision

Make sensor readings useful through context and review.

UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT

Condition monitoring observes indicators such as vibration, temperature or process performance over time. A signal becomes useful when its location, units, operating context and quality are known. More sensors do not automatically create better maintenance decisions.

Define who reviews trends and how findings become investigated work. Validate alert criteria for the equipment and service rather than copying a generic threshold. Keep missing or suspect signals visible and preserve the evidence behind a recommendation.

Questions to take back to your team

  1. Is each signal mapped to the correct equipment and units?
  2. Who validates alert criteria?
  3. Can a reviewer trace a work recommendation to the supporting trend?
