UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT

A handover should explain the current operating state and what the next team must understand. Useful records include significant deviations, unavailable equipment, active constraints, work interfaces and outstanding actions. Copying yesterday’s log without review hides changes.

Use structured fields for repeatable information and concise narrative for context. Assign owners to follow-up actions and retain acknowledgment according to site practice. A digital entry is a record of communication; it does not replace required direct discussions or operating procedures.

Questions to take back to your team

  1. What changed during the outgoing shift?
  2. Which actions need an owner or escalation?
  3. How is understanding of critical information confirmed?
