CHBC UNIVERSITY / FIELD GUIDE

Comparing performance across multiple sites

Use common definitions while preserving operating context.

UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT

Enterprise comparisons need consistent metric definitions, reporting periods and data quality rules. Sites can still differ in process, asset age, operating duty and maintenance strategy. A single league table can conceal these differences.

Use peer groups where possible and show context beside the metric. Let users drill from a portfolio view to a site and then to source records. Record definition changes so a trend break is not mistaken for an operational improvement.

Questions to take back to your team

  1. Are sites using the same metric definition?
  2. Which operating differences require separate peer groups?
  3. Are coverage and definition changes visible?
