UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT
A repairable unit can move between equipment locations, a store and an external repair shop. Its serial identity should persist through these movements. Installation history belongs both to the unit and to the location where it performed a function.
Record condition and custody at each transition. Distinguish available stock from quarantined or awaiting-inspection items. Repair cost and findings should link to the same serial record so repeated failures can be investigated across different installations.
Questions to take back to your team
- Can the serial number be followed through every custody change?
- Is repaired stock released only through the defined review?
- Are repeat failures visible across installation locations?
