Creating a useful technical handover package

Deliver structured records that operations can actually find and use.

UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT

A technical handover package should connect information to the systems and assets it supports. Manuals, drawings, certificates, inspection records and spare-part information need an agreed index and acceptance criteria. A folder containing thousands of files is not enough.

Validate identifiers, revision status and readability before acceptance. Keep incomplete deliverables visible in a punch list with responsible parties. Separate commercial project closure from acceptance of technical information when their criteria and authorities differ.

Questions to take back to your team

  1. Is there an agreed package index and acceptance basis?
  2. Can each record be located from the relevant asset?
  3. Who resolves missing or unacceptable deliverables?
